Corrosion Inhibitors
| DeFOREST Home | About DeFOREST | DeFOREST Products | DeFOREST Technical Service |
|---|
The following products are anionic, water-soluble corrosion inhibitors primarily based on carboxylate chemistry. They are recommended for use in alkaline systems only, where no foam or low foam is essential. These corrosion inhibitors are non-phenolic, phosphate free, and hard water stable. They are inherently biodegradable and effective at low concentrations. Some contribute wetting properties and are very effective hydrotropes as well.
DeCORE IMT-100LF
A low foaming 100% active modified carboxylate for use in alkaline systems only. Extremely effective at low concentrations in both ferrous and non-ferrous applications. The final use solution should contain concentrations of 0.25-1.00% by weight, to prevent corrosion. Concentrations above 0.5% by weight may cause staining on cast iron without enhancing corrosion inhibition. The use of DeCORE IMT-100LF as a corrosion inhibitor is complemented by its lubricating, wetting and spreading properties.
DeTROPE CA-100
A 100% active modified carboxylate exhibiting low, quick-breaking foam. DeTROPE CA-100 is an outstanding hydrotrope and an excellent corrosion inhibitor for aluminum and ferrous metals. It is effective at low concentrations and will not leave a solid or waxy residue on metal surfaces upon drying. The corrosion inhibition and hydrotropic properties of DeTROPE CA-100 are complemented by good wetting properties as well. This multifunctional corrosion inhibitor is recommended for use in alkaline systems only.
DeCORE BE-85
A non-foaming, 85% active amine borate for use in alkaline systems only. Very effective corrosion inhibition properties on ferrous and non-ferrous metals when used at a minimum concentration of 1% by weight. Suggested for use in aqueous alkaline systems where zero foam is required. Prevents corrosion on aluminum but may cause staining.
DeCORE APCI-95
A 95% active, low foaming modified carboxylate for use in neutral or alkaline water based formulations. Very effective all-purpose corrosion inhibitor suitable for use on soft metals such as copper, brass, and magnesium. Also effective on aluminum, cast iron, steel, galvanized steel, and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Suitable for use in synthetic cutting fluids, parts and metal cleaners, aerosol products, water-based paints, and cooling tower additives. DeCORE APCI-95 is inherently biodegradable and non-phenolic. Does not contain nitrites, chromates, or phosphates.
APPLICATIONS
Each one of the products are recommended for use as corrosion inhibitors and may be used in the following applications:

CAST IRON CHIP TEST
Shows results of 24 hour test using grade 35 cast iron chips tested in solution on filter paper. Each solution contained % by weight of corrosion inhibitor plus hard water containing (100 ppm as CaCO3 and 71 ppm as CaCl2) at room temperature.

SUBMERSION TEST
Figures 2, 3, and 4 indicate the results of submersion tests. The top half of the panels were submerged into a liquid made up of % by weight of corrosion inhibitor plus hard water containing (100 ppm as CaCO3and 71 ppm as CaCl2) at room temperature. The other half of the panel was exposed to the vapor phase in closed containers.
Fig. 2 Panels are hot dipped Zn/Fe galvanized (unpolished) at 90 gms. and tested for one (1) yr.
Fig. 3 Indicates two (2) year results using bare #2024 aluminum at 0.063 inch thickness.
Fig. 4 A two (2) year result on cold rolled steel, SAE 1010, low carbon, 1/2 hard tempered @ 0.063 inch thickness.
